5. Willamette Valley
The Willamette Valley can be described in three words: sun, wine and life. The valley is located between the western Oregon Coast Range and the eastern Cascade Mountains. Very fertile soils and lots of sunshine make the Willamette Valley a perfect growing area for lots of fruits and vegetables but especially hops and wine. Therefore, the valley is also called Wine Valley. The valley extends north to Portland and includes Oregon’s other largest cities: Salem, Eugene and Springfield. Incidentally, Matt Groening’s Springfield from the Simpsons is really based on Springfield, OR, as the creator confirmed in 2012.
The counties of the Willamette Valley also extend to the Pacific coast. Thus, the coastal section between the north and south coasts must also be mentioned. The well-known and beautiful cities of Reedsport and Florence are located here.
